Personal Empowerment

religion/spidrituality and self deception

Life with its accumulation of experiences allows us to discover
things only experience can reveal. Such is the case with my religious/spiritual
experiences. After my life fell apart following the murder of my mother and sister, I
left my traditional Christian background in search of bigger
spiritual answers to put myself back together. Looking at
these religious/spiritual traditions as an outside observer, I
discovered something I would have been unable to
discover had I been a participating member of any one of

Perception vs. Truth

Perceptions are built on experience. Experience leads to belief. Those who have had different experiences from yours will, therefore, have different beliefs. Yet most feel their beliefs are true with a capital T and will fight to the death of a relationship to “be right” about the truth of their beliefs. But all they really have is their perception.
Perception comes from how they choose to interpret their experiences, or how they have been taught to interpret them.

Be Your Own Guru

At Vermont College in Montpelier, Vt. I made a friend who asked me to be her Guru. While I was flattered that she considered me wise enough to be her Guru, I told her, “No!” I believed that everyone had their own inner guru and believe it even more strongly today.

At that time, I had no clue that I would ever be writing a book about how to connect with your own inner guru...which is essentially what Rising from Ashes is about.

How Our Programming Stifles Our Creative Power

Picasso's quote is simple, yet brilliant in pointing out how parents, (teachers, preachers, bosses , friends and the media as well) program us into being what they think we ought to be. I'll take it one step further and point out that they put the fear of God into us, or make us feel guilty, or less then, if we don't comply with what they think we ought to be. Fear makes it extremely difficult to become what we were meant to be...something that Picasso had the courage to overcome and to to discover for himself what he was meant to be.

NPR Radio Interviews

I had a great radio interview  with Lisa Davis on her “It’s Your Health” show. On KMBH.  She will post the interview. Check it out at http://www.itsyourhealthnetwork.com/

Lisa wanted my photo to put on her website…very cool.

You can hear her every Sunday at Noon (Est) on Public Radio 88FM, an NPR affiliate in TX. Which is syndicated in Boston, MA, home of all the brainy people from Harvard University.

The Silk Worm: A Metaphor for Transformation

Most of us have seen a caterpillar slowly inching its way along a tree branch concerned about only one thing—survival The caterpillar’s great goal in life is to find its next leafy meal.

Contrast that with the butterfly it is destined to become. The butterfly will be free to fly high and see wide to experience a magnificent view of the world not available to the caterpillar, to experience the feel of a flower under its feet, to taste the sweetness the nectar provides, to fly from flower to flower, bush to bush, and beyond.

Which would you rather be?

Top Steps to Personal Empowerment

There are many things in this world that will work to bring you down. Personal empowerment is extremely important, and discovering that you are a strong individual is the first step towards living a happier life. There are many factors that come into play, and over time you too can rebuild your self esteem and lead an empowered life.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

Curtain Call

Abuse of the elderly is a very serious matter. It doesn’t matter who you are, this tragic form of abuse can happen to anyone. I recently read this article outlining the story of Mickey Rooney and his experience with elder abuse. I wanted to share this tale as a warning to everyone out there, that no matter who you are or what situation you are in, that it is entirely possible to be taken advantage of.
